A SCOOTER rally is taking place in Warrington to mark 40 years of Quadrophenia.

Latchford’s Phase 3 Scooter Club will be driving from Victoria Park to the Town Hall at 12.30pm on Saturday to celebrate The Who’s classic rock opera which came to define a movement in British cultural history.

Through a story about a young mod called Jimmy, the concept album-turned-film is an ode to teenage angst and counterculture rebellion, as well as a criticism of British class, economic and educational systems that still resonates with fans today.

The celebrations will continue at Warrington Record Fair when more than 30 scooters will arrive at Warrington Market shortly after 1pm.

There will be DJs playing vinyl throughout the event including a set by Phase 3 member Barry Ford who recently made his debut on the decks at the iconic Twisted Wheel club to mark his 70th birthday.

Last year, Phase 3 Scooter Club also featured in Soft Cell’s music video for Northern Lights.

It paid tribute to synth pop duo’s roots in Northern Soul as all their early material, including their signature cover of Tainted Love was heavily influenced by that scene.

The Quadrophenia-inspired fair will see thousands of records of every genre for sale between 10am and 4.30pm.

It is run by John Beddows who managed bands like Echo and the Bunnymen, The Farm and China Crisis in his early career.

The Quadrophenia scooter rally and record fair will take place this Saturday. Entry to the fair is free. For more information visit facebook.com/warringtonmkt
