THE school holidays are almost over and autumn is on the horizon.

But fear not, there is still plenty to enjoy in Warrington this month.

Here is our pick of the best things to enjoy in town this September.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 - WOOLSTON SHOW

Warrington Guardian: Crowds gather at Woolston Show

Woolston Show takes place this weekend.

Attractions including a canine display team, donkey rides, a dog show, circus workshops, fairground rides, a falconry display and Morris dancers will be held in Woolston Park from 1pm to 4.30pm on Sunday.

Organised by the Friends of Woolston Park, the annual event will be supporting a number of charities and good causes.

SEPTEMBER 7 and 8 - WALTON COUNTRY FAIR

Warrington Guardian: Million-pound plan for Walton Hall

The Walton Country Fair is back at Walton Hall and this time it’s for the weekend.

The English Civil War society will be in residence all weekend along with North West casual classic car club, Austin 7 club and more.

Rock up on Saturday and you’ll see parts of Walton transformed into a tented village where members of the Civil War society will be demonstrating crafts and trades of the 16th Century. With re-enactments throughout the day you might want to bring some ear plugs.

There will also be farmers markets inside The Old Riding School with Warrington West Concert Band playing in the yard throughout the day.

The event is free and takes place on both Saturday and Sunday.

SEPTEMBER 14 and 15 - BURTONWOOD NOSTALGIA WEEKEND >

Commemorate the personnel who were stationed at RAF Burtonwood from 1940 - 1993.

This special event is a great way to learn about life on the base and enjoy a fantastic range of attractions.

From classic cars to stylish vintage stalls, don't miss out on this fascinating weekend! Tickets are £3 per person or £10 for a family of four.

Check out  military vehicles, living history groups and enjoy music and dancing too

SEPTEMBER 14 - HATTON SHOW

Warrington Guardian: Crowds come out for Hatton Show

The annual horticulture show near Daresbury is one of the biggest on the calendar in Warrington.

Check out the massive marrows and enjoy the horse show as well

SEPTEMBER 15 - ENGLISH HALF MARATHON

Warrington Guardian: English Half Marathon

One of the biggest annual events on the calendar in Warrington.

You can run a half marathon, 10k, 5k or mile throughout the weekend with the roads of the town centre coming to a standstill on the Sunday.

More than 7,000 runners are expected to take part.

You can still enter here - or simply cheer on the runners on the day.

SEPTEMBER 29 ST ROCCO'S COLOUR BUBBLE RUN

Warrington Guardian: St Rocco's Colour Run

Head to Walton Gardens and go bright and bubbly for St. Rocco's!

Be part of a group of hundreds of people getting splattered with powdered paint and getting bubbly as you walk, jog or run the 3km course! Last year over 500 runners of all ages and fitness levels took on the Colour Bubble Fun Run as a memorable way to raise funds for St. Rocco's patients and their families.
