A FORMER Labour Party member will stand for the Tories as a Chapelford and Old Hall candidate in next year’s all-out borough council election.

Phil Hayward and Summit Tuli have been selected as Conservative candidates in the ward for the election next May.

Mr Tuli was a Labour member last year but says he quit after becoming ‘increasingly disillusioned’ with its approach to delivering an ‘inclusive agenda’.

The candidate, who runs a printing company in the area, believes his experience with community groups will allow him to unite residents.

He said: “Most of my family and friends live in the Chapelford area and love being involved in such a diverse community.

“I want to make sure everyone who lives here feels safe, so I will work hard with the community neighbourhood groups and police to make things better, especially as we have a number of areas which act as a magnet for problems.”

Mr Hayward, who has a background working in the space science procurement sector, insists residents want to see action to improve the area.

He said: “I’m a member of the patient participation group at Chapelford surgery, so getting the right health services for this area is a real priority for me.

“With Chapelford being classed as an urban village we need to see more community resource in this neighbourhood, as you’d expect in any village environment.”

The pair also want to see action to reduce the speed that cars travel on roads through the area.

Mr Hayward added: “It’s evident that many drivers just don’t know what the speed limits are, we need better signage and a community effort to highlight the dangers of travelling at such speeds.”

Warrington Conservatives chairman Paul Campbell said the two candidates will be ‘strong voices for families’ in Chapelford and Old Hall.
