FIREFIGHTERS were called to a chemical leak at Holyhead port in the early hours of Thursday morning.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it sent three fire engines after the spillage from a lorry container at Terminal 3.

The Environment Agency also attended the port to assess the incident.

A spokesperson for the fire service said the response was a standard procedure for chemical leaks.

"We sent two crews from Holyhead and one from Rhosneiger following a chemical leak from an articulated lorry," the spokesperson added.

"Two hose reels were used and the Environment Agency assessed the incident. There was no fire and nobody was harmed."

The spillage was cleared and decided safe at about 3.24am.
