MUM-of-three Abbie McGann was named Volunteer of the Year at last year's Inspiration Awards for helping distribute people's spare food to struggling families.

Now, we are looking for your nominations for the 2019 awards which take place at the Village Hotel in November.

This promises to be a night of cheers and tears honouring those who go the extra mile like Abbie who founded the Facebook group, Free Food in Warrington.

The group, which was created in 2017, now has more than 4,000 members who donate spare food to those in need.

Abbie uses her free time to run the group along with a team of supportive admins.

Residents donate food as well as cash through a Go Fund Me page which is used to do a week’s worth of shopping to give to families.

Last November, an emotional Abbie accepted her award amid cheers from the room and thanked the town for nominating her and making her job possible.

She said: “Thank you to all of my admin team.

“Thank you Warrington Open Doors at Christmas (WODAC).

"They put aside £500 for our charity so if we are ever short of funds or food then WODAC will help us; they’re amazing.

"It would not be possible without members of the Warrington community.

"You make the world a much better place.”

Hayley Smith, Warrington Guardian editor, said: "Please help us reward those who truly deserve some recognition by giving up just a bit of your time to make a nomination.

"All entries are gratefully received and considered by our judging panel."
