75 years ago

UNDERSTANDING members of Northwich Urban Council brought happiness to a Rudheath woman who had been confined to a wheelchair for nine years with polio.

After receiving a letter from the woman’s husband, the housing committee decided to ask a sub-committee to consider adapting a new bungalow to meet her needs.

It was a specialist at Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital who suggested that Edna Senior should ask the council about having hoists fitted in her home.

50 years ago

A FORMER Northwich man, living in Canada, was appointed assistant professor of Geology to the University of Ontario, Canada.

Dr Ward Chesworth graduated from Manchester University and spent two years at the Pennsylvania State University.

A PROJECT started in the town to place more emphasis on the importance of mental health awareness.

It was started by Dr Francis Seymour and the project had two principal objectives. Namely, to stimulate interest in Mental Health careers among school-leavers and students and to encourage people living at home to give time for voluntary work in the mental health field.

25 years ago

THE heritage attractions of Northwich and its surrounding areas were highlighted in a series of bus tours in the town.

Passengers travelled on a fully restored 1956 North Western Road Car Company double decker bus.

The tour stopped at the Salt Museum, The Lion Salt Works, Anderton Boat Lift, Marbury County Park and the town centre.

A NEW Vale Royal Borough Council housing advice was set to open in the centre of Northwich.

The council gave planning permission to change the use of a vacant shop to a housing office.

An objection to the plan was submitted by the Northwich and District Civic Society who felt that the shopping precinct area should be reserved for retail shopping only.
