A FUN day for all the family has been organised to enable residents to find out more about Penketh Community Fire Station.

The station on Widnes Road will be opening its doors to the public from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, August 17.

The free annual open day will include a number of safety displays and a road traffic collision demonstration conducted by firefighters.

Visitors will have the chance to look around a variety of fire and rescue vehicles, including vintage fire engines.

There will also be a raffle, barbecue food, face painting, an ice-cream machine and icy drinks to enjoy, as well as a stall for The Fire Fighters Charity.

Watch manager Paul Aney said: “Our free to attend annual open day is a great way for residents to find out about the work that we do and the equipment we use at Penketh Community Fire Station.

“They can have a look around the station, sit inside a fire engine and learn about the kit and equipment that our firefighters use.

“The crew will be doing operational demonstrations throughout the day and there will also be displays, fire and rescue vehicles and face painting to keep visitors entertained.

“It will be a fun and informative day for all the family and we want as many people to come along as possible.

“You will learn a lot about the life of a firefighter and the roles that they and the station play in serving the community, and you will also pick up some vital safety messages to keep you and your family safe.”
