A NEW weightloss clinic is set to open in the town centre.

The Slimming Clinic has been earmarked to move into a vacant shop unit in the Cockhedge Centre.

An application for planning permission submitted to Warrington Borough Council describes the business as being a ‘doctor-led weightloss clinic’, which would employ three full-time and three part-time staff.

It is anticipated that the premises would open from 9am to 8pm from Mondays to Fridays and between 9am and 6pm on Saturdays.

Planning application documents stated: “The applicant operates throughout the UK, and the proposed development will assist in tackling the issue of obesity – which is one of the biggest healthcare challenges facing the NHS in the UK.

“Obesity contributes to several serious health issues including diabetes, heart disease and cancer, and it is estimated that the UK spends £48billion per year dealing with health care and social causes related to obesity.

“The clinic offers doctor-led personal weightloss treatment, including appetite suppressants, weightloss injections and natural slimming aids.

“A support plan is then tailored to each patient, including comprehensive doctor assessments, prescription medication, nutrition advice, physio recommendations and a weekly support programme.”

Consultations on the plans run until Tuesday, August 27.
