DEDICATED youngsters have been awarded for their positive attitude towards sport.

Joe Riding and Jake Doughty are both students at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School and were praised at the Warrington PE and School Sports Award Evening.

Joe, who is in year three, received the ACE Award which recognises young people who demonstrate continued commitment and effort.

Despite suffering with DiGeorge Syndrome, which can cause a range of lifelong problems, Joe was nominated for never giving up.

Danielle Walker, a year five teacher at Sacred Heart, said: "He was recognised for his amazing attitude no matter what hurdles he came to and the smile on his face as he takes on every challenge."

Jake, a year four pupil at the school, was acknowledged for his achievements in football.

He is part of the Liverpool academy squad, training every week and has already travelled to play against other European teams this year.

Danielle added: "Jake continuously dedicates hours a week to his sport and adores what he does.

"It is so amazing for us to watch him progress and we are so proud of him."

The awards evening was hosted by the Warrington School Sport Partnership at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

It was set up in 2000 to allow more young people in the Warrington borough to participate in physical activity and school sport through sport partnership days, competitions and coaching opportunities.
