NEW office space is earmarked for the Royal London site off Alderley Road in Wilmslow.

Royal London said it remained committed to delivering its vision for a ‘living campus’ following its planned move from Wilmslow to Alderley Park in 2020.

A spokesman said: “The ambition is to create a vibrant new part of Wilmslow, with outstanding places to live, work and relax which is easily accessible to residents by foot, cycle and public transport.

“Royal London has instructed its in-house specialist investment manager, Royal London Asset Management (RLAM), to continue to take steps to ensure its vision will be realised.

“RLAM has prepared an outline planning application for the development of new office space on land to the east of the current campus.

“The application is consistent with the planning consent granted in 2016 for new office space on the same part of the campus.

“The current planning consent permits development of 17,000 square metres of new office accommodation, with 1,100 car parking spaces.

“The new planning application seeks a renewal of the current consent, but is illustrated by a different design concept.

“This shows new, smaller buildings capable of offering more flexible accommodation, which market research shows will appeal to companies of varying sizes.

“Vehicle access to and from the new buildings will continue to be via the existing entrance and exit junctions on Alderley Road.”

The application has been submitted to Cheshire East Council by Avison Young, planning consultant for the scheme, and no construction work is expected to start until after Royal London has moved to Alderley Park.

The spokesman added: “RLAM has appointed Colliers in Manchester to prepare a strategy for the campus as a whole, which will include some buildings being vacated by Royal London.

“The strategy will seek to determine how the existing buildings and surrounding landscape might best contribute to the overall vision to develop a vibrant ‘living campus’.

“Proposals will be consistent with the Council’s adopted Local Plan and the adopted Development Framework.”
