THERE has been another major milestone reached in the work to revamp Warrington’s war memorial.

The team carrying out repairs to the Cenotaph restored the main obelisk for the monument on Sunday.

Works will now continue to reconstruct the surrounding walls and plaques at the Bridge Foot site in order for the Remembrance Sunday service to take place there in November.

Warrington Guardian:

Work started on the £1.1 million project in January and was required due to worries about the nearby river bank collapsing.

Work to strengthen the bank has now been completed.

As part of the scheme, contractors Balfour Beatty will also be upgrading the appearance around the monument, including improvements to paving, lighting and general access.

A time capsule was buried within the monument by mayor Cllr Wendy Johnson earlier this month.
