ELLESMERE Port cadets took to the skies at the weekend as they made their first glider flights.

Royal Air Force Air Cadets from Merseyside Wing travelled to RAF Ternhill to undertake the final stage of the requirements for their Blue Wings and the overall completion of the first level of the

Aviation Training Package at 632 Volunteer Gliding School (VGS) where they made their first flights in a Viking Glider using a winched launch.

Among the new flyers were cadets from 1074 (Ellesmere Port) Squadron who along with 1175 (Prenton) and 2359 (Woolton) Squadrons received instruction in how the gliders are launched and retrieved.

They then completed two launches along with the resulting flight over Ternhill and the surrounding countryside, giving them quite the view.
