A CARLISLE man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving following an incident in Carlisle.

Police chased a car through the city, bringing traffic to a standstill.

It resulted in a crash between a black Audi and a police car on Victoria Viaduct, at the James Street junction near the Pools.

The initial incident happened at 7.35pm on Monday on Warwick Road.

Police said a black Audi was involved in a crash, but failed to stop.

Officers pursued the vehicle to Victoria Viaduct, bringing it to a halt.

A 36-year-old Carlisle man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and robbery.

He remains in police custody.
