THE Latchford community has come together to give a young resident the chance to walk.

Theo Warburton, who lives on Edgewater Park, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in his legs at the age of 18 months and cannot walk unaided.

The three-year-old is set to undergo an operation which will give him the chance to overcome this in September, but rehabilitation afterwards will cost up to £40,000.

To lend its support, the Edgewater Park Residents Committee held a fundraising evening at Pierpoint and Bryant Social Club and raised a staggering £3,652.

Theo was diagnosed with the condition at 18 months old, but he has not let it hold him back.

Despite needing a walker to get around, he enjoys playing football at Cerebral Palsy United FC and also likes a game of rugby.

After his operation, he will require intense physio and other forms of rehab which will need to be funded by his family.

But they are now a step closer to affording this thanks to the help of the community.

The fundraising event included a live performance by comedian Chris Boyle and music from Deusa, which is led by fellow Edgewater park resident Sara McKenna.

Catering company Jasper’s also provided a free buffet for adults and children.

Fundraising was boosted by amazing cash donations of £1,000 from Latchford Locks recycling plant Novelis and £500 from Morris Homes, the Edgewater estate builder.

Businesses generously donated their products and services for a charity auction, which itself raised more than £1000.

Residents also dug deep into their pockets, with one member of the community paying £100 for tickets to Knowsley Safari Park.

Paul Shannon, chair of Edgewater Residents Committee, presented Theo’s mum Michelle with a massive cheque on the night and it was clear how much it meant to her.

“What a fantastic community this is,” she said.

“It’s wonderful to see adults and children having a great night out, while also supporting a worthy cause.”
