WARRINGTON South’s Tory parliamentary candidate Andy Carter is backing Boris Johnson to be the next party leader and Prime Minister.

He believes the Conservatives need a leader who can unite the party and the country, as well as delivering on the result of the EU referendum.

Mr Carter said: “If you look at Boris’s record in office, as Mayor of London, you can see the action he took to tackle crime and improve social housing.

“Boris has a track record of bringing diverse communities together and delivering on his manifesto.

“For me, Boris is building the broadest coalition of support, not just in Westminster and among Conservative members but also on the doorstep here in Warrington.”

Former health minister David Mowat suffered a shock defeat in the 2017 general election after losing the Warrington South seat to Labour’s Faisal Rashid.

But Mr Carter believes he can win it back at the next general election.

Furthermore, the former managing director of Smooth Radio, from Lymm, says he hears ‘time and time again’ that Mr Johnson is the man who can stop Labour leader Jeremy Corby from becoming Prime Minister.

He added: “We’ve discussed and debated for too long, we have to get on with Brexit, we’ve seen what happened to the party at the EU and local elections in May when we don’t deliver on our commitments.

“I’ve looked carefully at what all of the other candidates are saying and I’m very pleased we’ll be able to put two fantastic, highly capable leaders to our members for them to choose in July.”
