A GYMNASTICS club in Birchwood is celebrating 10 years serving the community.

Since being set up in July 2009 by Emma Doherty, The Wire Gymnastics Club has grown from having eight young gymnasts to more than 400 from all over the north west.

And one of the coaches praised Emma for all that she has done to make the club what it is today.

“Emma has been absolutely amazing with how she has set up and ran the club for the past 10 years,” she said.

“Everything the club is today is because of her and how hard she works, every day and every night around the clock.

“The children are really fond of her and appreciate everything she has done for them since she has been there.”

After starting off in Padgate Community Centre, The Wire has since moved to its own gym space on Trident Industrial Estate, where they can offer the children better training opportunities.

“Emma was involved in gymnastics when she was younger and wanted somewhere for her children to take it up,” she continued.

“She tried visiting some other Warrington clubs, but decided to set up a new place for young gymnasts that were better equipped.”

And since then, the club has grown substantially to welcome gymnasts who travel from places across the north west.

“We have an amazing club with a friendly atmosphere, and welcome gymnasts of any age and ability, from pre-school children to elite level gymnasts competing in British championships,” she added.

“From having eight gymnasts with us at the start, we now have 400 members that travel from places as far as Liverpool, Manchester and Wigan to use our facilities.

“The club is doing so well that we are looking at making a trip to Austria for an international performance event, and we host our own competitions for gymnasts to enter.”
