A DISCOUNT supermarket chain is set to open a new store in Orford.

Heron Foods has announced today, Thursday, that it will open a branch on Orford Lane at the end of the month.

The discount grocery store brand will move into the unit formerly occupied by Ron Spencer Cycles – which moved to Crossley Street, off School Brow, at the turn of the year after 40 years in its traditional home.

And the new supermarket will open at 9am on Saturday, June 29.

This will be Heron Foods’ third store in Warrington, joining its branch on Buttermarket Street in the town centre and the shop at Birchwood Shopping Centre that opened in 2018.

More than 15 jobs in both full-time and part-time capacities will be created by the new store – which will open from 8am to 8pm from Mondays to Saturdays, and between 9am and 5pm on Sundays.

On its opening day, 100 goodie bags worth more than £5 will be given away to the first customers who spend £5 in the store – as well as making a number of discount vouchers available in its first few days of opening.

A free-to-use cash machine will also be installed in the new supermarket.

Store manager Stuart Willis, who has worked for Heron Foods for nine years, said: “I’d personally like to thank colleagues for their preparation work and the residents who have already shown support.

“I think the store will give the area a huge boost.”
