DON'T check your calendars, it's definitely June.

After a wash-out weekend a weather warning has now been put in place with heavy rain affecting a large portion of the north west.

The Met Office has issued the yellow warning for rain between midnight tomorrow, Wednesday, and 12pm on Thursday.

A spokesman added: "Heavy rain is expected to affect the region throughout Wednesday only slowly easing during Thursday morning.

"Around 20 to 40 mm of rain could widely fall with 50 to 80mm possible over high ground and as much as 100mm in a few locations."

The Met Office warns spells of heavy and persistent rain have the potential to bring flooding and disruption to transport in places.

A spokesman added: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

"Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads."

The warning is in place for a number of areas in the north west including Warrington, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton and Merseyside.
