HOMES in Newton-le-Willows lost their water supply today, Sunday.

The water supply was cut off at around 7.15am after a high voltage fault on the electricity board's system in overhead power cables led to pumps being shut down.

Engineers were sent to the scene and fixed the problem at around 10.15am.

While the issue was being resolved, United Utilities sent out tankers to pump water into homes and provide a supply for residents.

The issue also affected WA2 and WA5 addresses in Warrington.

A statement released on United Utilities website this afternoon reads: "Our inspector has rectified the technical fault and supplies have been restored to the area.

"You should notice that your taps are starting to flow normally again.

"We’re sorry for the disruption to your supply and thank you for your patience.

"Because there’s been some disturbance to the pipes in your area you may notice the water is a little cloudy or discoloured."
