A MAN has been arrested today on suspicion of rape following a report of an alleged sexual assault on a woman.
The incident is reported to have happened just before 8am this morning (Wednesday, May 29) near Salisbury Street, St Helens.

A man was later found by police on Peasley Cross Road, where he was arrested on suspicion of rape and of grievous bodily harm.
He has been taken to custody for questioning where he remains, say police.
Police are currently in the area carrying out further investigations and a police cordon is in place at Vera Page park.
