WARRINGTON Athletics Club youngsters recorded personal bests as the club came out on top in the first round of the UK Youth Development League North West Division 3S took place in near perfect conditions at Longford Stadium, Trafford.

All the club’s hurdlers delivered best performances and, dependant on results in other divisions, moved up the ranking lists.

In the under 15s girls’ 75m hurdles Meg Corker stormed to victory by equalling her UK leading time from the Cheshire Championships of 11.0secs, while Lisa Halliday improved her best time to 13.3secs in winning the B event.

Evie Schofield won in the under 13s age group, improving her time to 11.6secs to move up to fifth equal in the UK.

Lacey Taylor won the B race on her debut in the event with 12.7secs.

In the under 13s boys’ 75m hurdles, Corey Beechall won in 12.9secs to move to seventh in the UK.

Victories in other under 13s girls’ A events came from Alice Nicholson (2min 42.4secs) in the 800m, Harriet Bell (4mins 16.4secs) in the 1200m, Lacey Taylor (1.25m) in the high jump and Evie Schofield (4.01m) in the long jump, while B wins came from Gia Wharton (4mins 28.5secs) in the 1200m and Lacey Taylor (12.7secs) in the 70m hurdles.

In the under 15s age group A events, Meg Corker also had wins at 100m and 200m in 12.8secs and 26.1secs respectively while Orla Gregory (4mins 51.5secs) won the 1500m and Amelia Smithers (14.60m) won the javelin.

In B events wins came from Ellie-Ann Tuitt-Williams (13.6secs and 28.0secs respectively) in the 100m and 200m, Lisa Halliday (3.83m) in the long jump, Eva Ferris (2mins 33.7secs) in the 800m and Emily Entwistle (5mins 09.7secs) in the 1500m.

Wins came in the 4x100m relay (Lisa Halliday, Ellie-Ann Tuitt-Williams, Grace Callaghan and Meg Corker) in 53.3secs and 4x300m relay (Amelia Smithers, Molly Wormald, Emily Entwistle and Orla Gregory) in 3mins 16.6secs.

In the boys’ under 13s age group other A wins came from Corey Beechall (1.25m) in the high jump, Zak Chamun (25.43m) in the javelin and Jack Marwood (5mins 15.1secs) in the 1500m after a battle with teammate Jacob Pryor (5mins 15.8secs) who won the B race.

Zak Chamun also won the B 800m in 2mins 42.4secs and Rory Gregory the B javelin with 20.39m.

Meanwhile, Colin Bishop, Steve Watmough and Andy Green won silver in the 55-64 age group of the UK Masters Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield

Bishop handed over in third place with the eighth fastest time, Watmough recorded the fifth fastest time to take the team into first place and Green, coming back from injury, secured second spot.

Bishop finished sixth in the Anderton Boat Lift 10K multi-terrain race the next day, winning the over 55s age group.
