A 17-YEAR-old college student is already making waves in the film industry by winning a best film award.

Rhianna Bibby, from Fearnhead, was offered a place on the British Film Institute's (BFI) Clapperboard programme in Liverpool which saw her working alongside professional filmmakers.

After taking part, The Birchwood College student won best film at the 2019 Clapperboard Film Awards along with four other team members.

The award ceremony took place in the Capstone Theatre in Liverpool’s International Arts Venue where Rhianna and the team were presented with their trophy by actress Sacha Parkinson, best known for playing the role of Sian Powers in Coronation Street.

Rhianna was previously a secondary school student with Birchwood High and progressed with the school by moving up to the college to study media.

Stuart Hamilton, Rhianna's media studies teacher, said: "Rhianna is an excellent media student and it is an honour to teach someone as dedicated, determined and talented as her.

"Rhianna knows exactly what she wants to achieve and I am certain that she will be successful within this industry."

The year 13 student has already completed work experience at BBC Radio Manchester in Media City in Salford last year.

She was tasked with writing and presenting a news report on the radio and she even appeared on BBC One's North West Tonight.

After a gap year Rhianna will take up her place to study screenwriting with film, television and radio at the University of Central Lancashire.
