A BOARD responsible for reviewing extreme weather and flood risk management has been given the green light to continue its work over the next year.

During Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting at Bank Park Pavilion, members voted to reappoint a range of groups and boards.

They include the extreme weather board, planning for travellers task group, waste strategy task group and night time economy task group.

The extreme weather board is tasked with reviewing extreme weather events, along with considering winter maintenance and flood risk management.

It creates an additional and regular ‘scrutiny and accountability’ mechanism for and on behalf of the Cabinet, while also operating as a forum to consider and drive forward improvement strategies.

The planning for travellers task group, which has been asked to identify a location for the town’s future £2 million site, will also continue over 2019-20.

In March, council leader Cllr Russ Bowden confirmed a secret shortlist has been finalised, with a recommendation expected to come to the Cabinet in the ‘near future’.

Commenting on the task groups during Tuesday’s meeting, he said: “My view is that task groups really should be task and finish groups.

“Once the main business of those task groups has been completed, they should be discontinued.”
