AN MEP candidate who sparked anger across the country following his controversial "rape tweet" will be campaigning in Salisbury this weekend.
UKIP's Carl Benjamin, also known by his YouTube persona Sargon of Akkad, came under fire for a social media post in which he said he "wouldn't even rape" the Birmingham Yardley MP.
Public criticism increased when leader of the party Gerard Batten claimed the tweet was "satire".
Mr Benjamin will be speaking in Guildhall Square at 12pm on Sunday.
As reported, the Swindon-based hopeful sent the tweet in 2016 when responding to Ms Phillips having written: “People talking about raping me isn’t fun, but has become somewhat par for the course.”
He replied: “I wouldn’t even rape you, Jess Phillips.”
