THE Marshmallow Man gave a giant thumbs up to a movie-themed baking fundraiser at Roberts Bakery, in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
The larger-than-life Ghostbusters character dropped into the Rudheath bakery as guest of honour at the cake-off extravaganza, as Roberts’ staff made film-inspired bakes to raise £350 for charity.
The cake-off was the brainchild of Geoff Walsh, who retired from Roberts last year after 37 years and picked a cake decorated to replicate a film reel as the overall showstopper.
He said: “When I worked at Roberts my wife Jane was always sending me in with homemade bakes for me to share with the team, so you could say I had a bit of reputation for cakes.
"I wanted to carry the tradition on and that’s how it evolved into this fantastic cake-off. The cakes all looked amazing and, of course, it was terrific to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK – a charity that needs more publicity and more support from events like this.
"Thanks to everyone who baked and bought cakes – it was a brilliant day.”
Roberts family member Karol Roberts presented the trophy to payroll assistant Pauline Newton, who made two Mini Mouse themed cakes for the event.
