A BROKEN down train is causing long delays and cancellations to services from Warrington Bank Quay station today, Wednesday.
The incident happened on the line between Wigan North Western and Preston, which is having a knock-on effect on other train services.
The line has since reopened, however trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or diverted until 9.30am as services return to normal.
This will affect Northern services between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street heading towards Blackpool North and TransPennine Express trains from Manchester Airport towards Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.
Virgin Trains services running between London Euston, Blackpool North and Glasgow Central as well as trains between Birmingham New Street and Edinburgh are also affected.
National Rail are advising passengers to check before you travel.
