A FUND specially created to support projects benefitting the over 50s in Warrington is appealing for new applications.

The Warrington Older People’s Fund was created through the transfer of two dormant Warrington trust funds.

Grants of up to £10,000 can be awarded with the average grant being around £5,000.

Six projects received grants in the last funding round in February.

The new fund is managed by Cheshire Community Foundation (CCF).

The next grant panel will take place in July and CCF is currently on the lookout for projects that could potentially be worthy of funding.

Successful organisations included Warrington Wolves, whose Active Ageing project to help older people to become more active, healthy and less isolated received £10,000.

The Sharks Community Trust received £4,253 to deliver its Set the Pace walking rugby programme to encourage the over 50s to become more physically active.

Meanwhile, the Warrington Disability Partnership was awarded £9,953 to fit out a meeting room and pay for staff costs to run a lunch club aimed at enabling older people to socialise and make friendships.

St Philip’s Church in Westbrook received £2,500 towards the cost of creating a new community garden.

Applications forms are available now with submissions having to be made by June 14.

The grant panel will consider applications on July 11 when groups will be invited to present to the panel.

Zoe Sheppard, CEO of Cheshire Community Foundation, said: “The Warrington fund is making a real difference to the lives of many older people in the area and we are looking forward to hearing from other deserving causes.”
