A SERVICE in Warrington helping residents to quit smoking has been named the second best in England.

SmokeFree Warrington, part of LiveWire’s lifestyles team, had the second highest proportion of successful quitters in four weeks at 77 per cent.

The national average is 52 per cent.

LiveWire’s Ruth Armstrong, lifestyles officer lead at Smokefree, said: “The team has worked incredibly hard to achieve this and I’m really proud of our current success rate which is a reflection of the dedication and hard work that the team devotes to our clients.

“Every bit of work undertaken makes a difference, and together we will continue to support those ready to make changes to give up smoking.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank colleagues at Public Health Warrington, Warrington Borough Council, Warrington and Halton Hospitals and North West Boroughs Health for their contributions and ongoing partnerships.”

Sonya Ann Lee, 34, from Warrington, stopped smoking after 20 years using e-cigarettes with help of the team.

Sonya said: “I didn’t think I could stop smoking at all and I’m so proud of myself.

"If you believe in yourself, you can do anything - with the help and support of the Lifestyles team, you will get there!

"The advice I give people is to get help and support from LiveWire – they are happy to help."

In the past year, the Smokefree team has introduced a number of new methods of supporting people to stop smoking, which have had a successful impact on the four-week quit rates.

These include:

  • Automated text messages to clients to touch base outside of clinic contact time
  • Telephone consultations
  • Email consolations
  • Stronger links with Warrington Hospital
  • Workplace events and sessions
  • A dedicated Smokefree Warrington Facebook page
