FIREFIGHTERS tackled a spate of arson attacks in Widnes last night.

Crews were first called to Moor Lane shortly after 9.30pm on Friday, May 10, after a number of wheelie bins had been set of fire on Leigh Recreation Ground.

In total, four bins had been set alight by a ‘large group of youths’ – with one fire engine tackling the blaze.

Police were also called to the scene, with the suspects remaining in the area.

Around half an hour later, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the recreation ground on Dundalk Road as another wheelie bin had been set alight in the park.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
