A MUCH-LOVED bus driver from Orford is being remembered by colleagues at Warrington's Own Buses after he collapsed and died at work.

Pawel Nowowiejski, known as Pav, collapsed at the interchange in Golden Square on Tuesday afternoon.

He had been enjoying a game of table tennis during his break shortly before the tragic incident.

The busy interchange was evacuated and paramedics were called to the scene at 4.30pm.

Despite the best efforts from fellow bus driver Victor McKinlay and the paramedics, they were sadly unable to save the 45-year-old.

He was taken to Warrington Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Tracey Myers, a bus driver and colleague of Pav's, paid an emotional tribute to her friend.

She said: "He was a man who genuinely never had a bad word to say about anyone.

"He never got into any of the gossip and dramas in work.

"Pav was known for his hearty laugh and his love for table tennis.

"He had many friends and was a lovely man."

Pav, who came to England from Poland 12 years ago, leaves behind his 10-year-old son Daniel.

Pav arrived in England with a group of Polish drivers and at first worked for a bus company in Nottingham before making the move to Warrington.

None of the group spoke much English and so Pav and his friends took night classes to learn the language.
