THOUSANDS of leaflets have been handed out across the north west by the new party aiming to make waves in the European elections.

The Government has confirmed the UK will go to the polls on Thursday, May 23, despite the ongoing uncertainty around Brexit.

And Change UK, which was established by Labour and Conservatives angered about the direction of Brexit, says it has campaigned across the region for votes.

Andrea Cooper, the Liverpool born and raised number one candidate in the north west, has held a number of CEO and leadership positions to support young people and said this experience had made her want to stand.

“I’ve dedicated my career to supporting young people and Brexit will kick away the ladder of opportunity from them,” she said.

Second on the list is Warrington councillor Dan Price, an engineering consultant.

He said he was standing because he could see the damage Brexit is causing to north west manufacturing.

“I’m seeing first-hand how Brexit is hurting business,” he said. “Exports are down, companies are losing orders and this is just the beginning. Leaving the EU will mean extra costs for our manufacturers because of delays to supply chains. We will need to build extra warehouses as a result, paying for extra staff, extra business rates and extra stock.

“The consequence of extra costs and less productivity are factories and jobs moving overseas. We can’t ignore this.

“I’m proud of the manufacturing base we’ve built in the north west. It’s a real powerhouse that’s taken decades to build and I don’t want to see years of progress sacrificed, which is why we need a people’s vote to get out of this mess.

“Our politicians have completely failed us, parliament is gridlocked and the country is stuck in limbo. This is causing untold damage to business and jobs, and we need a people’s vote to get out of this mess."
