A DOOR-to-door jewellery conman has been fined hundreds of pounds.
Robert Morris, from Fairfield, fraudulently claimed to be a door-to-door canvasser authorised by trading standards.
The 45-year-old, of Weavers Fold, visited a number of houses attempting to buy jewellery – sparking a number of complaints to trading standards and police, who found him with a handmade laminated ID badge claiming that he was authorised to do so.
But no such authorisation had been given.
Morris admitted engaging in an unfair commercial practice at Warrington Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 24.
He was fined £120 and ordered to pay court costs of £350, as well as a £30 victim surcharge.
Dr Muna Abdel Aziz, director of health at Warrington Borough Council, said: “It is unacceptable for traders to try and gain an unfair commercial advantage by claiming to be authorised by the council.
“False claims like these are intended to deliberately mislead residents and our trading standards team will take action against such claims in order to protect local people.”
