A RACE night held in a Warrington sports club has raised over £3,700 for a Crohn’s and colitis charity.

As well as racing, the event at Eagle Sports Club in Great Sankey also had a raffle with the chance to win fantastic prizes all in aid of the charity, Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

And Robyn Molyneux, who organised the event, could not have been happier with how the night went.

“This charity is one which is very close to my heart,” said Robyn.

“My dad, Michael as well as a few other members of my family suffer from the condition, so it was always something I wanted to support if I could.

“It’s great that we have been able to raise this much money for such a great charity, and also to raise awareness about Crohn’s and colitis.”

Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, which affect more than 300,000 people in the UK.

Michael was diagnosed when he was just 23, but after seven major operations, he has been nothing short of inspirational for Robyn.

“For me, he has always been a fine example of what a positive mindset can do for you,” she continued.

Warrington Guardian:

“Even after seven major operations, he is a glass half full kind of guy, so I wanted to raise some awareness while putting on a good night.

“To have raised more than £3,700 for charity is just amazing and I’m chuffed to have made him proud in the process.”

Robyn also praised the support of local businesses, who rallied together to provide brilliant prizes to be auctioned off or won in the raffle.

“We had some amazing prizes to be won which were all donated by local companies and businesses,” she said.

“From Neighbourhood Weekender festival tickets to hair treatments at local salons and much more, I cannot thank them enough for their generosity and help.

“Social media has been really useful to spread the word about the event and it was great that local businesses wanted to get involved.”

And Robyn admitted that planning the event was tiring, but seeing the end results made it a worthwhile endeavour.

“I was exhausted by the time the night finished, but it was definitely worth the effort as the event was a huge success and I’m glad everyone enjoyed it and had a good time,” she added.

“Most of the preparation was done myself, but it would not have ran so smoothly without the support of friends and family, who helped with the buffet and selling tickets.

“It means the world that people could come and support the charity, so I would like to say massive thank you to everyone who attended.”
