THE head of transport in the town says the introduction of cameras in a bus lane on a busy road is a boost for public transport, reducing congestion and ‘keeping Warrington moving’.
The cameras on Wilderspool Causeway have been activated and ban drivers from using the lane between 7.30am and 9.30am and 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
Motorists will only get warning notices to start with but by mid-May, fines will be handed out to people spotted by the ANPR cameras.
Cllr Hans Mundry, executive member for transport, said: “Bus lanes offer speedier travel for bus users and improve service reliability, making buses a more attractive proposition for people to use.
"More passengers on buses means fewer cars on the road, which means improved air quality.
“We recognise the importance of our bus lanes and the problems that are caused through their unauthorised use.
