DO you know a top teacher or is your child's school simply the best?

Last week we launched our Warrington Guardian Schools Awards as we aim to shine a light on the inspiring leaders and unsung heroes in our town.

Our annual awards ceremony - now in its fourth year - is a celebration of Warrington's most inspiring pupils, teachers, support staff and schools and the winners will be honoured at a special presentation evening at the Village Hotel on Wednesday, July 10.

We asked readers to send in nominations for this year's awards and you didn't disappoint with more than 40 nominations received on the first day alone.

Warrington Guardian editor Hayley Smith said: "Every year we have had a record number of entries proving just how well thought of our town's teachers are.

"The Schools Awards are a highlight of our calendar and we would like as many people as possible to get involved. So whether you are a parent or you work in a school yourself, help us reward the best teachers, support staff, classes, nurseries and schools in Warrington.

"It's also important to stress that the awards aren't purely about academic achievement, it is also about honouring those who work tirelessly day in day out to help our children develop and flourish."

Last year's winners included Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School which was named School of the Year, Little Browsers Pre-School, which scooped the Early Years Award, and Mike McLoughlin from Beamont Collegiate Academy, who was awarded the Community Champion accolade.

It is free to enter the awards and there is no limit on the number of nominations you can make.

All applications will be considered and each category will be decided by a panel of judges.

The deadline for nominations is Thursday, May 23.
