A MAN is in a serious condition after he was shot in front of a child, while driving

Police were called to reports that a man had been shot in Eccles New Road at the junction of Langworthy Road, Pendleton, just after 2.40pm on Tuesday.

The man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital with a single gunshot wound to the upper torso.

A child was also in the car at the time of the shooting, but he is uninjured.

The shooter is believed to have been riding a motorbike and police are treating the attack as targeted.

No arrests have been made, but there is not believed to be a wider threat to the community.

Superintendent Marcus Noden of GMP’s Salford District said: “Our thoughts remain with the victim and the child who was present during this terrible incident.

“It is only by extreme fortune and the swift actions of the emergency services that this shooting didn’t prove to be fatal.

“For a child to be witness to this type of incident makes the situation even worse.

“We have a specialist team dedicated to this investigation. Many lines of enquiry are being followed and I would like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone with information to contact us.

“We cannot allow a minority of individuals to perpetrate this kind of crime. We need the community’s help to end this kind of violence.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 1205 of 30/04/2019, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
