A WARRINGTON woman has equalled a remarkable record in today's London Marathon.

Louise Blizzard has finished the famous race for the 25th time - equalling the record for the most appearances from a woman.

The Houghton Green runner finished in 3 hours 19 minutes and nine seconds.

The marathon has been a long term love affair for Louise since her first in the 1990s.

“I just feel really lucky to still be qualifying and taking part after 25 years,” she said before the race.

“My first race in 1994 and I just love the feeling of achievement when you cross the finish line.”

To put her London Marathon history into context, she has now raced a total of 655 miles.

This is the equivalent of running from Warrington to Freiburg in Germany or going from Warrington to London three times.

“It feels rewarding when you’ve gone through months of training, getting up at 6am on cold dark mornings since December, and you feel like all your hard work and dedication has paid off,” Louise said.

“It’s especially hard to train when you get older and I’ve had to fit it around work by running at weekends.”

The only year Louise, 43, has missed since she started running the annual race was in 2010, as she gave birth to her son Archie the day after.

Now he has started to get involved in running and aged nine, he and the family spent his birthday weekend cheering on his mum in London.

Louise has been raising money for the River Reeves Foundation.
