A 42-year-old has been charged after threatening a man with a machete in a Birkenhead street.

Officers were called to Singleton Avenue just before 9pm on Monday, April 22 following reports of a man threatening someone with a machete.

The machete was recovered and is currently undergoing forensics tests.

James Dean Ryan, of Digg Lane, Moreton has been charged with threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place.

He has been bailed to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on May 29.

Detective inspector Mike Dalton said: "We are committed to reducing and educating people about knife crime, and will continue to work closely alongside our partners to help get this message across, acting on all information provided by our communities.

“If you are caught carrying a knife, you not only risk being put behind bars, you are putting yourselves and others under serious risk of harm.”
