A FIGHT broke out between motorists in the middle of the M6 yesterday, Monday leading to a man getting punched in lane three.

Two lanes were shut on the northbound carriageway after police initially reported that a two-vehicle crash had occurred on the Thelwall Viaduct.

But today, Tuesday Cheshire Police confirmed there was no crash and the fight was a result of road rage.

A spokesperson said: "A driver of a Nissan Navara pick-up truck stopped in lane three of the motorway in front of a camper van.

"There was a dispute and the driver of a second camper van behind the first got out of his van and punched the driver of the pick-up truck.

"We have the details of all involved but no arrests have been made at this time."

There was heavy traffic and long delays between junction 20 M56 J9 for the Lymm Interchange and junction 21 A57 Manchester Road at Woolston as lanes three and four of four were closed.

North West Motorway Police said officials were in attendance but were delayed in getting to scene due to motorists ignoring the red Xs.
