KIDS are being urged to ‘give it some welly’ when the UK’s largest obstacle course for children comes to Arley Hall for the first time in June.

It’s ‘the muddier the better’ at The Little Welly, taking place on June 29 and 30 this year – with more than 30 challenges spread out over a 3km route.

The course has been specially created for children aged four to 12, and features climbing walls, a water slide, scramble nets, balancing poles, foam pit and lots of mud.

A new video featuring some of last year’s competitors across the UK proves that beating mum and dad is at the forefront for most competitors.

But it will take more to beat some parents than others, with Olympic medallist sprinter Roger Black among those having taken part.

He said: “The Little Welly is such a great day out for all the family. My boys loved it – fun, fitness, foam, and lots and lots of mud!”

Far from being a competitive event, the Little Welly is all about family fun and an excuse for kids to get muddy. Some even said it was their favourite day of the year – after Christmas.

There are medals for all finishers, while the fun continues with a festival of food, live music and entertainment, workshops and interactive sessions.

One dad who took part last year said the day was a refreshing opportunity to get involved in the fun.

Neil Canning, dad of five-year-old Freya, said: “I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

“Usually with kids-based activities, parents hang around watching their children enjoy themselves. It’s a pretty passive affair.

“The Little Welly was all about enjoying the experience together and it was lovely to share something with Freya and be ‘in the moment’ with her.

“I think her favourite bit was watching me get soaked and covered in foam at the end.”

Child course and festival passes cost £22.50, entry for assisting adults costs £9.50 and festival-only tickets are £6.50.

Discounts are available for group bookings and under four years are free.
