CHILDREN have been learning about Easter and how an egg can represent new life.

About 450 pupils from Ysgol y Foryd infants and Ysgol Maes Owen juniors were involved in a project with St Mary's Church in Towyn.

Little ones were able to watch chicks hatch and enjoyed decorating eggs and wrote prayers.

Reverend Chris Feak, priest in charge at St Mary's, said: "The idea was to tell the Easter story of new life in a fresh and engaging way.

"As well as the chicks there were activities such as making Easter gardens.

"We have an Easter tomb in the graveyard which we used to recount the events of Good Friday and Easter. We had 10 or so volunteers from St Mary's doing this as well as myself."

Mr Feak said the children loved being able to stroke and touch the chicks.

"Obviously the chicks were the star," he added.

"The children really got the link between the new life hatching out of the eggs and Jesus bursting from the tomb that first Easter. We often underestimate, I think, what children are capable of understanding."

The chicks will be returned to a farm. They were delivered to the church from Lancashire.
