HEALTH bosses are reviewing a number of treatments currently on offer in Warrington.

Warrington CCG, which commissions health services in the borough, says it wants to hear from patients to ensure 'the standard of care is consistent'.

Along with other CCGs in the area, it is currently reviewing the following treatments:

  • Continuous glucose monitoring
  • Cough assist devices
  • Insulin pumps
  • Secondary care administered peripheral steroid joint injections
  • Surgery for prostatism or urinary tract infection
  • Transanal irrigation

Dr Andrew Davies, clinical chief officer at NHS Warrington CCG said: “In reviewing our policies, we want to ensure that patients receive the appropriate healthcare in the right place, at the right time.

“Importantly, this review isn’t about denying access to treatment, it is about ensuring that the standard of care given to patients across the Mid Mersey area is consistent.

"Currently, there are varying criteria and pathways for access to the procedures, this can result in inconsistency in which procedures patients are offered, based upon where they live.

“Having a more equal set of policies will enable us to deliver a more equitable service for patients across the Mid Mersey area.

“By working together with fellow CCGs, we can also make sure that our NHS resources are being spent in the best way, looking at how the latest medical advice can result in the most appropriate treatment and outcomes for our patients.”
