RESIDENTS have expressed their frustration towards Warrington Borough Council for not consulting them over the upcoming Glastonferry in the Park music festival.

The event is due to take place in the town’s Bank Park on Saturday, June 22, but people living nearby said they have had no contact from the council.

One resident, who did not want to be identified, said: “My main issue is one of principle that the council have not even notified nearby residents that the event is to go ahead.

"About 20 houses look onto the park and the residents have not been consulted at all, and only know about the event through what they have seen on social media.

"I personally don’t have an issue with the event itself and may even attend, but the fact that the council has not had the decency to speak to residents about their concerns beforehand has got our backs up."

He also says residents have been given no reassurances over any measures in place to protect their properties from damage and any possible anti-social behaviour.

"By all accounts, there could be up to 5,000 people attending the all-day event with many of them drinking alcohol at the same time," a resident said.

"There’s going to be rowdy behaviour, littering and possibly even urinating in public and damage to our properties.

"All we want to know as residents is what provisions are in place to prevent these things from happening."

Resident's frustrations have been growing as the event draws ever closer, with multiple efforts to gain answers from the council being ignored.

The neighbour has also raised questions over how the festival could be awarded a licence on these grounds.

In response to their concerns, a Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We are currently working through the details of Glastonferry in the Park with a view to confirming a licence for a section of the park.

"As part of this agreement the organisers will carry out a full clean-up of the park after the event.

"Commercial fees will be confirmed within the licence, and all fees received through the hosting of events at our parks and green spaces are reinvested into their maintenance."

The council also confirmed that an open day will be held by the festival organisers at the Pyramid Arts Centre on Monday between 1pm and 7pm.

This will allow residents to meet with the promoter and his event management team to ask any questions they may have about the event.
