A HOUSING developer has stepped up to help a Sankey scout hut from falling into disrepair.

David Wilson Homes has offered a helping hand to the 10th Warrington Scout Group and made improvements to the hut.

The troop is located near to David Wilson Homes’ in Great Sankey.

The hut was previously in a prisoner of war camp five miles away in Widnes, but has been at its new location on Highfield Avenue in Great Sankey since the 1960s.

Improvements to the hut included replacing the windows with UPVC double glazing, a new glass door for the main entrance to bring more light in, providing better ramped access for disabled use, installed wall mounted heater, a new lick of paint to the main hall and entrance and finally, donated new white boards, pin boards and a shipping container to hold scout equipment.

Kevin Foote, scout leader at the 10th Warrington Scout Group, said: “The hut is more inviting and this hasn’t gone unnoticed by our parents.

"I frequently get compliments on the new brighter hut, with our new entrance and windows.

"The works have lifted the whole group’s morale, we don’t know how to say thank you enough!”

Steve Cosgrove, construction director at David Wilson Homes North West, added: “We’re really pleased we could help the 10th Warrington Scout Group with repairs to their hut.

“Not only does the hut hold a lot of historical value, but it’s now used by the community on a regular basis, so it was important to us that we could lend a hand in giving it a refresh and making it even better for the scouts and locals alike.”

The 10th Warrington Scout Group received the help from David Wilson Homes by submitting an Our Space Your Place application.
