A PENSIONER has died in a crash in Culcheth.

An air ambulance was called to the accident involving a car and two vans on Common Lane at around 4pm yesterday, Wednesday.

Police have now confirmed that the driver of one of the vans, an 84-year-old man from Warrington, died at the scene.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

It is believed that no other parties were injured during the incident.

The road was closed between the two entrances to Twiss Green Lane for several hours before reopening at around 7.30pm.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Sadly, the driver of one of the vans - an 84-year-old local man - died at the scene.

“His next of kin has been informed and the family are being provided support by specialist officers.

“There are believed to be no other injuries and the road was reopened at 7.30pm.”

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene, using cutting equipment to make one of the vehicles safe.
