Did we fool you?

Alas, George Sampson is sadly not really teaming up with Sting and Shaggy – but we can keep on wishing it will happen one day.

Thanks to George for being a good sport for this April Fools' Day story.

BRITAIN’s Got Talent star George Sampson has been invited on tour with Sting and Shaggy as a backing dancer.

The former Birchwood High School pupil will be performing his street dancing moves on stage at The Roundhouse in London, Newcastle Academy, Birmingham Academy and Manchester Apollo in May as the Every Breath You Take singer and the Jamaican musician present songs live from their unexpected collaboration album, 44/876.

The peculiar pair were looking for dancers who could match the tempo and vibe of their ‘tropical infused’ record, which reached number nine in the UK charts and won a Grammy Award, and they discovered George while they were watching Celebrity Coach Trip in the studio.

He said: “I don’t do as much dancing these days as I’m working on my TV and musical theatre career but I couldn’t miss this opportunity so I’ve dusted off my BGT and StreetDance moves. I’ve put in a lot of prep for it as I don’t want to fall on my face in front of them.”

Sting met Shaggy when the It Wasn’t Me star wandered onstage during one of his live performance and found their voices worked really well together.

George said: “It is a bizarre pairing and maybe they just picked me as they seem to like artists with an ‘S’ in their name. Sting, Shaggy and Sampson – it’s got a ring to it.

“But we get on really well. I’ve got to hang out with them a few times. Sting jokes about watching every move I make and I even got to see the infamous bathroom floor that inspired Shaggy’s It Wasn’t Me.”

George is even set to appear in one of Sting and Shaggy’s upcoming music videos and will be providing backing vocals on their follow-up album.

He added: “It’s so surreal when I’m sat in Harvey’s in Stockton Heath and I get a call from Sting. I’m also determined to get them to perform at Parr Hall!”
