A COUPLE had a bizarre surprise when they were redecorating their house in Birchwood as they stripped back the wallpaper to reveal a long-hidden masterpiece.

Andrea and Daniel Dobson recently decided to fully renovate an upstairs bedroom at their home on Pipit Lane for the first time since moving into the property seven years ago.

But Daniel and 17-year-old son Shaun Humphries made an astonishing discovery while redecorating when they peeled back the wallpaper on Monday, March 18 - revealing a painting of Michelangelo’s famous David statue.

And two further bizarre renaissance-style drawings of Romanesque female figures were then found on other walls in the room.

Andrea said: “We’ve been living here for about seven years, and we’ve redecorated the room by painting over the wallpaper since then but we’ve never actually stripped the walls down completely before.

“This time, we decided to strip everything off the walls - and there they were.

“My husband and my son were redecorating when they found the paintings on the wall.

“There are paintings of two women and a man in the bedroom, they’re all quite weird really.

Warrington Guardian:

“It was very funny - I just laughed when they showed them to me because it wasn’t what we were expecting at all.”

Sadly, David and his nude female friends will soon be covered up again as the married couple feel the unique artwork is inappropriate for a property also home to four children.

But it is believed that a nearby neighbour who used to live in the Dobson’s house may have been the artist responsible for the paintings, which appear to have been hidden away for decades.

Andrea added: “We’re going to be covering the paintings back up again soon.

“I am a fan of them, but we’ve got kids.

Warrington Guardian:

“We don’t know how long they’ve been there, but we think it was it is a neighbour who used to live in our house who actually did the paintings.

“It’s not the first time we’ve found the odd strange thing in the house, but there’s definitely not been anything like this before.”
