HEADTEACHER Emily Armstrong says the governing body at her school ‘richly deserved’ a nomination for a major award.

The governing board at Bexton Primary School has been shortlisted in the National Governance Association (NGA) awards for ‘Outstanding Governance’.

It is one of only seven entrants across the country to be shortlisted in the ‘outstanding governance’ category.

The board consists of 14 volunteer governors who represent a mix of parents, the community and teaching staff.

They meet each quarter and oversee the strategic direction of the school along with two sub-committees which oversee the curriculum and resource management.

Judges will visit the school to interview a number of governors, including headteacher Emily Armstrong, to ask further questions about the work of the governing board.

The awards ceremony take place at the House of Commons on May 21.

Emily said: “This nomination is richly deserved. The governing body at Bexton are incredibly supportive and have a clear strategic vision for the school.

“This has enabled the senior leadership team to make positive changes which has impacted not only the outcomes for the children but also their enjoyment of the wider curriculum.

“We are very much looking forward to the awards ceremony on May 21.”
