A SOCIAL club has been left sickened after burglars forced their way in and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Parr Conservative and Workingmen's Club on Broad Oak Road was targeted in the break-in overnight.

Offenders forced their way in, causing damage to the club's doors and shutters.

They smashed their way into all the tills and fruit and games machines, stealing all the cash from them.

It is believed they also entered the cellar although nothing was taken from it.

Chairman of the club Martin Ellison was left shocked by the break-in.

He said: "It is disgusting, we've put a lot of hard work into the club and for somebody to come and take it, I'm just speechless.

"It's a community place so that people can come together.

"We have pool and darts to bring families in and then we get hit like this.

"It's going to cost a lot of money to get right."

It is believed around £30,000 worth of damage has been inflicted by the burglars, with between £10,000 and £15,000 in cash taken.

Treasurer Mark Hitchen added: "It's a blow to the community, it is a sad day and it is a loss. We have a lack of facilities in Parr.

"People have come together, we have already had offers to hold concerts to help us and we've got a real community."
