A WALKING football club is set for its charity tournament in aid of Prostate Cancer UK after a surge of interest from the community.

The Culcheth Walking Football Club for the over 50s, managed by Dennis Sutherland, wanted to put their hobby to good use by organising a charity event and they have since attracted 16 teams to join them.

Yannis Nicolaidis, a member, previously explained: "We are all working so can’t join any daytime leagues, we can only participate in tournaments.

"We thought why not organise our own and have since decided to add more meaning to it by dedicating to a very worthy cause."

The Culcheth Cup will take place on Saturday at 11am at the LiveWire Culcheth Community all-weather pitches.

Teams from around the north west and Warrington, including Daresbury, Sankey, Birchwood, Risley, Croft and Culcheth, were drawn earlier this month.

Everyone is welcome to come and support the event, entrance is free and after the final there will be a free buffet at The Culcheth Arms, who are sponsoring the event.

The Culcheth Cup has attracted sponsorship from several companies and the teams are looking to raise further funds for Prostate Cancer UK through their JustGiving page.
